Watching the Oscars tonight made me feel so many things: I think the two most predominant things I felt, that I’d like to share, are the blessing of growing up in the United States, for all the wondrous gifts I take for granted, and the gross materiality we live in; the illusion of the material world, and how great Hollywood portrays it. We here in Los Angeles truly do live in a bubble of real life.

When you walk down the street, everyone looks great! Whether it’s from cosmetic surgery, or taking the right supplements, or eating right and exercising, so many people in Los Angeles really do manage to stay in great shape and look years younger than their age.

But realistically, it takes a lot of work to stay in good shape, to look young, and to keep the vibrant energy we had as kids.

Mostly, I see people in my medical practice who are sick, depressed, or ill in some way. But increasingly, more and more people are becoming aware that Chinese medicine, herbs and homeopathy can help with longevity and be used for rejuvenation.

One example of this is that more and more surgeons are sending their patients to me for treatments before and after cosmetic or other surgery. It’s true that if you receive acupuncture and take the right herbs and homeopathic remedies before and after surgery, you will recover much more quickly.

Another example are the many people in their 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s coming to me for rejuvenation types of treatments. Again, true — that if you get an acupuncture treatment once a month or even once every few months, it really does help to align, balance and tone up the energy patterns in your body, to keep you feeling younger and vibrant.

And there are great herbs we can all be taking to detox the liver, and to support the brain, the cardio-vascular system, the nervous system, and to help the skin maintain it’s elasticity and strength.

It’s really up to you as the individual. And this gets back to my repeating theme, that holistic medicine really is, and should be, a team effort, between your medical practitioner and you. I say this because you need to prioritize and together we need to determine how many different remedies and supplements are best for you.

One example is that if you have a history in your family of cardio-vascular problems, like high blood pressure or high cholesterol, then this should be a top priority. Also as we age, it’s very important to be taking a Yin Tonic herbal formula, and this can be combined with something for the skin or for the heart or eyes.

If there are headaches, then we can tailor – make a regimen for the liver, headaches and kidneys. The magic of Chinese medicine is that there are great formulas for pretty much everything.

Then there is homeopathy. We can use homeopathy to support whatever is the weakest organ system. And if everything is strong, than we can pick the constitutional homeopathic remedy that best matches your genetics and body type.

Lastly, we mustn’t forget how much our emotions effect our youth and youthful appearance. And there are wonderful amino acids, Chinese herbs and homeopathic remedies to help with worry, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorders, Asperger’s syndrome, ADD, ADHD, and just everyday, ordinary stress.

If you tend toward the scientific, than allow me to recommend that we perform a blood test, hair analysis, urine or saliva test, to more accurately and scientifically determine which supplements will match your situation. The good thing about testing, is that we can re-test every six months to monitor the precise changes taking place as you age.

Thanks for your time, and may you have a happy Spring.
